No-bake chocolate pumpkin cheesecake and Halloween

Halloween is a bit of a funny one this year – it’s on a Monday. Wandering the streets of the city yesterday, I saw the oddest mix of people; regular Saturday shoppers, zombie walkers, Jokers and Harley Quinns, blood-covered doctors or nurses and many bemused onlookers. Australians have mixed feelings towards Halloween, so when it doesn’t fall on a weekend, it seems even further diluted.

Chocolate beetroot cupcakes and adventure

Beetroot cupcakes (10 of 13)

Before you think “ew, beetroot in cupcakes”, please read this! I’m going to try and convince you that these adorable little suckers deserve a place in your heart AND your baked goods.

Beetroot cupcakes (1 of 13)

I love a good adventure. Every now and then, something in my brain just clicks and I feel the need for a change. The last time it happened, I ended up in Europe on a whim (which was a completely magical result that I still need to post blogs about). My little brain snaps usually happen on a smaller scale, though. They’re not usually as costly as last-minute flights! Continue reading “Chocolate beetroot cupcakes and adventure”

Caramello brownies and Australian desserts

I dreamed these brownies up in the middle of the night. I literally woke up, like a mad genius, and thought “brownies and Caramellos – who wouldn’t love that?!”Caramello brownie

When I lived in England I took any opportunity to tell people about how great Australia was – I ADORE England and I love travelling to different countries, but I’ve inherited this goofy patriotism from my mama. Jacarandas are out at the moment and I love being reminded of how stunning a place can be. I just love Australia. Continue reading “Caramello brownies and Australian desserts”

Smooth Festival of Chocolate and eleven chocolate recipes

I’m going to the Smooth Festival of Chocolate over the weekend and I could not be more excited. I may have to leave my wallet in the hands of someone I can trust, because there are too many stalls that I could send myself bankrupt at! Maybe I’ll see you there too?

I think I actually have a problem with my chocolate consumption – WAY too many of my childhood memories revolve around chocolate.

Every Easter at my house there is tonnes of chocolate (don’t believe me? Check out my Easter post!) and I have vivid memories of one of my cousins showing me, with great excitement, that leftover Easter eggs could be melted and spooned over icecream or eaten molten. That was a game changer. Continue reading “Smooth Festival of Chocolate and eleven chocolate recipes”

Chocolate brownie pie and cause for celebration

slice aboveThe last couple of weeks have been crazy and tumultuous and completely out of the norm for me. How out of the norm, you ask?

Pretty abnormal.

I tried out for reality television (and almost made it!), I got made redundant, and I struggled to motivate myself to bake.

BUT there is no time for wallowing, because fabulous things are in the pipeline. As much as I hate to revert to cliches, I truly feel that doors are opening. There is cause for celebration! Continue reading “Chocolate brownie pie and cause for celebration”

Earl grey choc chip mini bundt and comfort

aboveThis week is a bit of a crazy one for me. I’ve been baking to calm my nerves and keep my hands busy. And I’ve loved it. Last week I was a little lax with my recipe posting, but all will come good after this week. The uncertainty that has me baking like a crazy person will lift, and things will become clearer.

As always, I find myself turning to tea and baked goods for comfort – in this case, the tea and baked item are one! Earl grey tea and bundt; could one little morsel be any more perfect? It’s like all of my favourite things rolled into one perfect, adorable little bund(t)le. Continue reading “Earl grey choc chip mini bundt and comfort”

Choc pear brownie cake and accomplishments

tea and brownieI’ve been testing this recipe for a little while. I kept making it and liking it, but not loving it. I like to love all the recipes that I produce. In between making the various mediocre chocolate and pear brownies I managed to do some other cool stuff. For example, I made a milo mudcake, which I’ll post soon. I broke several peoples’ diets with a gorgeous white chocolate peanut butter cheesecake (for real, get the recipe here) and I went to Groovin the Moo and danced away a day that I would usually have spent baking. Chocolate elderflower mousse and Mother’s Day

flowerEverybody knows that you love your mum. It’s nothing to be ashamed of; it’s unavoidable. My mum is the one that instilled me with a love of feeding people. She’s a strong, clever, funny little lady and she’s never allowed to age because I won’t be able to cope without her.

She’s the woman who told me I was an idiot when I came home with a lip-piercing, the woman who continues to show me how to run a household and still dress immaculately, the woman who puts all of herself into her work. She’s well-spoken, fabulously insightful, and just an all-round nice person. Continue reading “Chocolate elderflower mousse and Mother’s Day”

Vegan chocolate cupcakes and challenges

swirlI really enjoyed making my white vegan vanilla cake that I’m continuing to try some vegan recipes. I love that they offer me a bit of a challenge, but it turns out that trying to make something taste delicious without the traditional delicious things that belong in cakes (eggs, milk, butter) isn’t as hard as you think! Choc hazelnut bundt and Easter left overs

aboveI don’t know what your household is like, but we’ve still got leftover chocolate eggs at our house. My whole family goes a bit overboard – each sibling is in charge of contributing some Easter eggs to go on the table, to be enjoyed by all… And each year, we have far too many eggs!

I’m not complaining (although my comfy pants probably are, they’re getting way too much use lately!), I just need to come up with some crafty solutions to the “problem.” Continue reading “Choc hazelnut bundt and Easter left overs”
